TMNT 2012

2016 I came to love the then-current version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I liked the 3D animations, I loved the characterization, and the partially funny, partially dark stories were right up my alley.

Plushies

At some point around that time, I had the idea to make some weighted plushies that I could toss around. It made me think of those four boys jumping across the roofs. However, while sewing them, I decided to go for a shape that’s closer to regular turtles so that they fit better into my hands.

And what would the boys be without their ninja weapons? So I crafted matching versions of these weapons that they could hold via magnets in their hands.

Of course, a tasty pizza was needed as well.

Donnie got his laptop a bit later.

And Mikey really wanted to have his superhero costume, buzz buzz.

Digital Painting

In autumn 2017, DeviantArt hosted the “Fanart Mash-up Challenge”, in which a random generator suggested elements from different franchises for people to paint. After a few attempts that didn’t really speak to me, I hit the jackpot: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” + “on Tortuga” + “robbing a bank.”

2020 I felt the urge to paint Donnie und Mikey.

I love how the “B-team” complement each other on the show, even if they don’t always get along. Donnie’s analytical mind and Mikey’s chaotic love for experimentation make for an unbeatable combination.
