The Kaleidoscope System

The Star System

At the outer rim of this star system, there is an enormous, nebula-like phenomenon that emits massive amounts of energy across the electromagnetic spectrum. The Nimýric Empire knows this colorful cloud as the “Kaleidoscope.”

Multiple planets and their moons orbit the central star. An additional planetoid at the outer rim is being held in a constant position by its inhabitants so that they can make the best possible use of the Kaleidoscope’s energy.

The Cultures

Chryphóra/Qentora

Large parts of the second planet from the star are covered by water. Its inhabitants still bear traits of the fish that moved to solid ground in ancient times.

The largest continent is dominated by the Nimýric Empire that sees itself as the defender of civilization. East of that, there are three more continents inhabited by the peoples of the Pereqaian Alliance – and those are determined not to bow to that empire’s definition of “civilization.”

A few other cultures are hesitating to pick a side.

Ranul

The third planet is orbited by a moon where a species of sapient reptiles evolved.

The Rilsu World Republic emerged from the ashes of two superpowers that nearly wiped each other out. Now, in the age of space travel, they explore the watery planet to gain a better understanding of their own history from the tension between the cultures over there.

And this understanding is urgently needed because two factions are starting to forget the lesson and chase after the alleged glory of the old superpowers.

The Outer Planetoid

A small celestial body at the outer rim is home to a single species.

“Those Who Know” prefer a form that vaguely resembles various insects.

They have a direct connection to “That Which Changes.” The colorful radiation source provides them with everything they need to survive and explore the other worlds.

Ever since the Hive remembers, they have been a single mind with many bodies. Therefore, the conflicts within the younger species are inherently alien to them, and the Hive watches them with both fascination and concern.

Just Visiting

Finally, there’s the Herd – a group of gigantic creatures that visits the star system every couple of centuries. Long ago, their kind was bred as spaceships, but not even they remember by whom.

Now they fly from celestial body to celestial body to feed on plants and minerals before they disappear from the system again. But during their last visit, a young ship strayed too far from the Herd and missed the opportunity to depart…
