About two decades ago, an Elven king created a law that made the conception of Werewolf-Mixbloods punishable by death.
Countless lives were ruined by this. And although the situation calmed down after the initial massacres, the threat persists.
This is the story of five survivors who decided not to be victims anymore.
The Pack
Sona’Ria
An assassin who uses her Air magic to move silently through the world. She’s used to living in the shadows outside society, but after years of isolation, the anger about her lack of choice outweighs the safety. She’s determined to get revenge on the man whose policy ruined her life – too bad she’ll need allies for that.
Lex Herabur
An alchemist who specializes in poisons and explosives. Apart from that, he conducts his own research with the goal of going down in history – if there’s no place for him in this world, at the very least, he can teach it to fear him. The idea of taking down a king with others of his kind fits neatly into that plan. Almost too well to be true.
Feng Ara
A work slave without any formal education, but with muscle power to compensate for it. And ice magic, as soon as she escapes that situation… But that’s already everything she knows about herself. Her childhood, her family, her real name… all that is buried in the darkest corner of her mind, and she can’t shake off the feeling that it’s better not to look there…
Areon Son of Zepran and Lumia
A warrior and the only one to survive the attack on his home village. Since then, he’s been drifting through the world without aim, first into a monastery and then from one mercenary job to the next. Nothing of that will ever make his failure undone – but maybe he can find peace when the king who ordered the attack is held responsible?
Thakon Schwarzpelz
A former knight and experienced strategist. At the first opportunity, his brothers-in-arms revealed their true opinion about him, and instead of enjoying his well-earned retirement, he is now being hunted by the very kingdom he had been proudly defending for decades. Someone has to steer it back to the right path.
The Project
Around Christmas 2022, my artist friend Alkahria offered a special deal: The customer could pick different traits from which she would design a character concept. I decided to buy such a design and chose the options “Elf” + “Werwwolf” + “multiple”.
At the beginning of 2023, Alka started her community stream to create that design… and during the brainstorming phase, I made the fatal suggestion that “multiple” could be interpreted as “in different stages of transformation.” An idea which she liked just as much – and suddenly we had five characters on the screen.
Since the idea was too good to discard it, we renegotiated the price and chaos ensued. During the stream, Alka started tossing around ideas for their story. Ideas that I absolutely loved – and while the rest of her community cheered us on, we got more and more invested in that story.
Alka made the finished artwork look like a comic book cover, complete with a fictitious advertisement. The community made the first comments about how we needed a Kickstarter for this series – and I knew that I wanted to explore that story. That I wanted to get to know this bunch of misfits.
So this is exactly what I’m doing right now – familiarizing myself with these characters, planning the course of their revenge quest, and writing the first novel of that series.
